Facebook introduced ‘3D photos’— images which bring enhanced perspective and movement to timeline photos by leveraging the depth information captured by Apple’s dual-camera iPhones.

To create your own 3D image of the site, start by creating a new Facebook post. When a new post appears, tap the three dots in the top right corner to bring up an additional menu and then select “3D Photo” to open the iPhone “Portraits” folder where you’ll select the image you’d like to share.

iPhone:

To create your 3D photo, log into the Facebook app for iOS on a supported iPhone that has Portrait Mode.

  1. Tap What’s on your mind? at the top of your News Feed. Tap Write something… in a group or Create a post on a Page.
  2. Tap Photo/Video.
  3. Select your Portrait Mode photo and tap Done. You’ll see 3D in the bottom right of eligible photos.
  4. Tap Make 3D in the top left of your photo.
  5. Tap Share or Post.

Note: To remove the 3D effect, you can tap Remove 3D in the top left of your photo.

Android:

To create a 3D photo, log into the Facebook app for Android on a supported device that has Portrait ModeLens Blur or Live Focus Mode.

  • If you’d like to share a 3D photo, you can’t add multiple photos to a post. Only one 3D photo can be shared at a time.
  • At this time, 3D photos can’t be added to an album.
  • If you’re posting a 3D photo from a Page, 3D photos can’t be boosted or used in ads at this time.
