Rockstar Games has officially delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI to May 26, 2026.
The game was originally planned for release in fall 2025, but the developers say they need more time to meet fans’ high expectations.
In a message on its website, Rockstar apologized for the delay and thanked fans for their patience. “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected,” the company wrote. “We need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
The first trailer for GTA VI was released in December 2023, showing off a return to Vice City and introducing Lucia, the franchise’s first female lead character. The story is inspired by Bonnie and Clyde, adding a new twist to the classic GTA style.
Despite the long wait, fans are still excited. However, the delay caused Take-Two Interactive’s stock to drop 8% in pre-market trading. More details about the delay may come during Take-Two’s upcoming financial report on May 15th.
Meanwhile, GTA V continues to be hugely popular — even 11 years after its launch — recently becoming the most-watched game on Twitch in 2024.
