Atlas Menu, a cheat service used for the popular online game Grand Theft Auto V, has been hacked, exposing data from almost 64,000 accounts, according to the breach notification website Have I Been Pwned.
The stolen information reportedly includes users’ email addresses, usernames, scrambled passwords, IP addresses, and support tickets. The breach puts users of the cheat service at risk of being identified, especially those who signed up to use unfair tools inside the game.
Atlas Menu had claimed on its website that it offered secure authentication and better privacy through advanced encryption techniques. However, the site was down at the time of reporting, making the breach even more embarrassing for the service.
A hacker who claimed responsibility for the attack posted the allegedly stolen data on GitHub. The motive appeared to be revenge against a scammer, though the owners of Atlas Menu could not be reached for comment.
According to a video previously posted on the Atlas Menu website, the service offered several cheating features for GTA V players. These included invisibility, super jump, which allowed players to jump higher than normal, and the ability to fly through the map.
The breach shows how users who rely on cheat tools can also become victims themselves. Game cheats have become a multimillion-dollar business, especially as some players look for unfair advantages in competitive gaming.
Atlas Menu is not the first cheat service to suffer a breach. A popular cheat provider for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was also reportedly hacked a few years ago.
