Google Photos is getting a major update to its video editing tools on both Android and iOS.
The app now includes a redesigned editor, new highlight reel templates, and more control over adding your own text and music to individual videos.
Highlight reels in Google Photos have also been upgraded. These reels automatically create short videos using your selected photos and clips, but until now, the editing options were very limited. The new update adds themed templates with built-in music and text styles. Your photos and videos automatically sync with the template, making the final video look more polished. Google says that the updated highlight reel tools and custom text overlays will only be available on Android for now.
Google has also redesigned the video editor with a more modern layout. It introduces a universal timeline that lets you trim and rearrange clips more easily. The new interface works in a way similar to popular editing apps like CapCut and Instagram’s built-in editor. You can also add your own text and music to videos, and the updated music browser inside Google Photos makes it simpler to find the right audio.
The improved video editor and the ability to add custom text to videos are already available. Other new features are rolling out gradually.
