Google is expanding its content transparency features to make it easier for people to identify videos created or edited using artificial intelligence.

Users can now check whether a video includes content generated with Google AI directly inside the Gemini app.

To use the feature, users upload a video and ask a question, such as whether it was created using Google AI. Gemini then scans the video for an invisible SynthID watermark, which can be embedded in both audio and visual elements.

The app uses this information along with its own analysis to provide a clear response, including details about which parts of the video contain AI-generated content.

For example, Gemini may report that a SynthID watermark was found in the audio during a specific time range, while confirming that no AI-generated elements were detected in the visuals. This gives users more context rather than a simple yes or no answer.

Uploaded videos can be up to 100 megabytes in size and up to 90 seconds long. Google says the feature works for both images and videos.

The verification tools are now available worldwide in all countries and languages supported by the Gemini app, marking another step by Google to improve transparency and trust around AI-generated media.
