Google is rolling out timestamped comments for videos in Google Drive on the web, making it easier for teams to leave feedback at exact moments in a video instead of relying on separate notes or messages.
When reviewing a video stored in Google Drive, users can now choose between adding a timestamped comment or a regular file-level comment through a split button in the commenting interface. Timestamped comments are linked to a specific point in the video and appear as visual markers on the playback timeline.
Clicking one of these markers automatically jumps to the relevant moment in the video and highlights the associated comment, allowing reviewers and content creators to quickly understand feedback without manually searching through the footage.
Google says all existing commenting features continue to work with timestamped notes. Users can edit comments, reply to discussions, resolve feedback, and mention teammates using @ notifications, just as they can with standard comments.
The update is designed to simplify video review workflows by keeping feedback directly inside Google Drive. Instead of sharing timestamps through emails, chat messages, or external documents, teams can collaborate on demos, training videos, marketing content, and recorded presentations from a single location.
Timestamped comments can currently be created only when using Google Drive on the web. However, users viewing videos in the Google Drive mobile apps for Android and iOS will still be able to see these comments, where they will appear as regular file-level comments.
