Google Chrome is rolling out advanced memory management features to help users keep their tabs from draining system resources.
These updates include a new “Performance issue alerts” system and enhancements to the existing Memory Saver mode, which conserves resources by suspending inactive tabs.
With the new alerts, a Performance Detection tool identifies tabs using excessive resources and notifies users via a speedometer-like icon next to their account thumbnail. Clicking this icon opens a list of the problem tabs, allowing users to either “Dismiss” or “Fix now” for smoother browsing.

Google has also refined its Memory Saver, a feature introduced in 2022, by adding three modes: “Moderate,” “Balanced,” and “Maximum.” Each mode offers different levels of tab management: Moderate optimizes based on system needs, Balanced takes browsing habits into account, and Maximum aggressively suspends tabs after a brief period of inactivity.
To access these new settings, click Chrome’s three-dot menu, go to Settings, then open the “Performance” tab. You’ll find the new alerts toggle and updated Memory Saver options, designed to keep Chrome running efficiently on any system.
