GitHub has accidentally confirmed the existence and features of OpenAI’s upcoming GPT-5 models through a now-deleted blog post.
The post, quickly spotted and archived by Reddit users, detailed that GPT-5 will be released in four distinct variants, each aimed at improving reasoning, code quality, and user experience.
Four GPT-5 Variants Revealed:
- gpt-5: Optimized for logic-heavy, multi-step tasks.
- gpt-5-mini: A cost-efficient model ideal for budget-conscious applications.
- gpt-5-nano: Designed for speed and ultra-low latency tasks.
- gpt-5-chat: Built for advanced, context-aware, multimodal enterprise conversations.

The blog also mentioned “enhanced agentic capabilities” and GPT-5’s ability to handle complex code with minimal input. GitHub compared these models to Meta’s Llama 4 Scout and Cohere v2, emphasizing OpenAI’s edge in the space.
OpenAI is set to officially unveil GPT-5 today during a LIVE5TREAM event at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. This comes just days after the company released two GPT-OSS open-source models, one small enough to run locally on PCs.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and other staff have been teasing this release, promising a major upgrade over GPT-4.
