Mozilla has announced a new privacy feature for Firefox, introducing a free built-in VPN designed to protect users while browsing.
The built-in VPN offers up to 50GB of free browsing data each month. This is intended to cover common online activities such as shopping, banking, and general web browsing. Once activated, the feature routes browsing traffic through a proxy network, masking the user’s IP address before it reaches websites.
The VPN can be turned on with a single click within Firefox. If users reach the monthly data limit, the feature will pause until the next cycle. Firefox will notify users before continuing browsing without the VPN to ensure they are aware of the change.
Mozilla clarified that this free feature provides protection only within the browser. For users who want full device coverage across apps and services, the company continues to offer its paid Mozilla VPN, which includes unlimited data and broader protection.
The feature is currently rolling out in beta to Firefox desktop users in select regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France. Mozilla plans to expand availability to more countries in future updates.
