The European Commission is currently investigating a cybersecurity incident after a threat actor gained access to its Amazon cloud infrastructure.

The breach has not yet been officially announced, but internal sources confirm that at least one account used to manage the cloud environment was compromised.

According to people familiar with the situation, the attack was detected quickly, and the Commission’s cybersecurity response team is actively assessing the impact and securing the systems.

The attacker reportedly contacted the media and claimed to have stolen more than 350 GB of data, including several databases. They also shared screenshots as proof, showing access to employee-related information and an internal email server. However, the attacker stated they do not plan to demand ransom and instead intend to release the data publicly at a later stage.
