Elon Musk’s companies, X Corp. and xAI, have filed a federal antitrust lawsuit in Texas against Apple and OpenAI, accusing the two tech giants of colluding to stifle competition in the fast-growing artificial intelligence industry.
The lawsuit claims that Apple gave preferential treatment to OpenAI by deeply integrating ChatGPT into iPhones, iPads, and Macs. According to Musk, this partnership provides OpenAI with an unfair advantage by granting access to “billions of user prompts,” while sidelining competitors like xAI’s chatbot Grok.
Musk also alleges that Apple suppressed rival apps in the App Store, preventing Grok and X from being featured in high-visibility sections such as “Must-Have Apps,” despite strong user reviews. His companies are seeking billions of dollars in damages along with a permanent injunction to halt what they call an “anticompetitive scheme.”
Apple has denied the allegations, insisting that the App Store operates fairly, while OpenAI dismissed the case as part of Musk’s ongoing legal harassment
