OpenAI has made ChatGPT’s voice feature much easier to use. The company announced that ChatGPT Voice will now appear directly inside your chat window, instead of opening in a separate interface.

This update lets you talk to ChatGPT while also seeing its responses on the screen. You can view things like images, maps, or any visuals the chatbot shares during the conversation. Previously, voice mode moved you to a different screen with an animated blue circle, a mute button, and a video recording option. You could only listen to ChatGPT’s answers, and if you missed something, you had to exit voice mode and check the text version separately.

With the new design, you can speak and watch the responses appear in real time. You can also scroll up to review earlier messages without leaving the voice conversation. The experience feels more natural because you can switch between speaking and typing whenever you want. The only extra step is tapping “end” when you want to stop talking and return to text only.

This redesigned voice mode is now the default and is rolling out to all users on both web and mobile. If someone prefers the old style, they can still switch back by going to Settings, selecting Voice Mode, and turning on the new Separate mode option.
