U.S. Vice President JD Vance faced an unexpected hiccup while joining Bluesky on Wednesday evening, as his newly created account was briefly suspended by the platform.
The social network quickly restored his account, attributing the issue to its automated systems that flag potential impersonation attempts — a measure designed to protect public figures from spoofing.
“Vice President Vance’s account was briefly flagged by our automated systems that try to detect impersonation attempts, which have targeted public figures like him in the past,” a Bluesky spokesperson told TechCrunch. “The account was quickly restored and verified so people can easily confirm its authenticity.”

Bluesky confirmed that Vance’s suspension was unintentional and extended a welcome to the Vice President, emphasizing its commitment to fostering open political dialogue on the platform.
Vance’s first post after his account was reinstated referenced the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to uphold a Tennessee law banning gender-affirming care for transgender minors — a topic that has sparked widespread political debate.
