AT&T has introduced a new feature called Account Lock to help protect wireless users from SIM swapping attacks.
Available through the myAT&T app, the feature blocks unauthorized actions like SIM card changes, phone number transfers, billing updates, and even device upgrades.
SIM swapping is a growing cybercrime where attackers trick mobile carriers into switching a victim’s number to a new SIM card. Once they gain control of the number, they can intercept calls and texts—including two-factor authentication codes—to access sensitive accounts like email or banking.
AT&T joins other carriers like T-Mobile, Verizon, and Google Fi, which already offer similar protections. Although the feature began rolling out earlier this year, it is now more widely available to users.
To enable Account Lock, open the myAT&T app, go to Services > Mobile Security > Wireless Account Lock, and choose which accounts you want to lock or unlock. AT&T will notify the primary account holder via email and send a text message to all active lines. Only users with primary or secondary access to the account can use this feature.
