Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd., the brewer behind Japan’s top-selling beer, has disclosed a cyberattack that disrupted several of its domestic operations, forcing the company to suspend key services.

According to the company, the incident has halted ordering and shipping activities in Japan, while its call centers and customer service desks remain unavailable. The disruption, which began at 7 a.m. local time, is currently under investigation.

“Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. is currently experiencing a system failure caused by a cyberattack, affecting operations in Japan,” the company said in a statement published Monday. “At this time, there has been no confirmed leakage of personal information or customer data to external parties.”

The brewer, which controls about one-third of Japan’s beer market, employs around 30,000 people and produces roughly 100 million hectoliters of beverages annually. In 2024, Asahi reported revenues close to $20 billion USD. Globally, the company operates four regional branches — Japan, Europe, Oceania, and Southeast Asia — and owns major brands such as Peroni, Pilsner Urquell, Grolsch, and Fuller’s.

At present, the cyberattack appears limited to Japan-based operations. It remains unclear whether any sensitive data was accessed or stolen. The company has not disclosed details about the nature of the attack, the threat actors involved, or whether ransomware was used.

Asahi apologized to customers and business partners, saying it is working to restore operations but did not provide a recovery timeline.
