Apple has released iOS 26.1, bringing a few highly requested changes and performance improvements to eligible iPhones.
While it’s not a major update, it introduces a new option that lets users adjust the transparency of the liquid glass design, one of the most talked-about features of iOS 26.
Previously, users could only reduce transparency through Accessibility settings, which removed the liquid glass effect entirely. With iOS 26.1, Apple has added a dedicated menu that allows users to keep the stylish look while increasing opacity. You can now go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass and choose between “Clear” and “Tinted” options, with live previews available before applying the change.
The liquid glass interface was Apple’s biggest visual overhaul since 2013’s flat design, but it divided users. Some found it elegant and refreshing, while others complained it made text and buttons harder to read. The new customization option is Apple’s way of balancing design with usability.
Beyond the transparency tweak, iOS 26.1 includes several smaller updates. Users can now swipe left on the lock screen to open the Camera app, a shortcut that can be adjusted from Settings > Camera > Lock Screen Swipe to Open Camera. The update also introduces the ability to record local audio and video during video calls, a useful tool for creators and professionals recording interviews or podcasts.
Apple has also expanded Apple Intelligence language support, adding eight new languages, including Chinese (Traditional), Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Portuguese (Portugal), Vietnamese, and Turkish. Live translation now supports five additional languages: Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Italian, Japanese, and Korean.
Other small but welcome improvements include gesture controls to change songs in Apple Music, a new slider to stop alarms more easily, and the option to automatically install security updates.
To get the new features, go to Settings > General > Software Update and install iOS 26.1.
