Apple Maps users may soon start seeing ads within the app as early as next year, according to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

The move would align Apple Maps with competitors like Google Maps, which already feature sponsored listings. Under the reported plan, Apple would allow restaurants, stores, and other local businesses to pay for promoted placements in search results.

Apple already displays ads across several of its platforms, including the App Store and Apple News. This expansion into Maps could be part of the company’s broader effort to grow its advertising business as it seeks new revenue streams beyond hardware sales.

According to Gurman, Apple aims to stand out from rivals by offering a cleaner interface and using artificial intelligence to ensure ads feel relevant and useful. However, the big question remains — how will users react as Apple’s once ad-free ecosystem starts to look more like a billboard for paid promotions?
