Apple’s privacy-focused Hide My Email feature is reportedly affected by a security flaw that could expose users’ real email addresses, despite being designed to keep them private.

According to a report by 404 Media, Tyler Murphy, co-founder of EasyOptOuts, disclosed the vulnerability to Apple more than a year ago. However, the issue has reportedly not been fixed.

Hide My Email allows users to create random email aliases that forward messages to their actual inbox, helping protect their real email address from websites and online services. The reported flaw, however, could allow someone to discover the real email address behind one of these aliases under certain conditions, potentially defeating the feature’s main privacy benefit.

Details about the exact method have not been publicly disclosed, likely to reduce the risk of abuse while the issue remains unresolved.

Apple has not publicly commented on the reported vulnerability or announced a timeline for a fix. Users who depend on Hide My Email for privacy may want to stay alert for future software updates and security advisories addressing the issue.
