Apple has announced its upcoming software updates at the Worldwide Developers Conference, introducing the next generation of Apple Intelligence and a new version of Siri called Siri AI.
The updates will arrive with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27, bringing smarter AI features, stronger parental controls, and performance improvements across Apple devices.
Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, said Apple products are an important part of people’s daily lives and that the company is bringing new capabilities to help users do more. He said the new releases will deliver the next generation of Apple Intelligence, introduce a more capable Siri experience, expand child safety tools, and make Apple’s software faster, more reliable, and more enjoyable to use.
The biggest announcement is Siri AI, a redesigned version of Siri that is deeply integrated across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro. Apple says Siri AI can understand what is on a user’s screen, use personal context to search across apps like Messages, Mail, Photos, and more, and perform actions across the system. It can also search the web for up-to-date information and provide helpful answers using broader world knowledge.
Apple is also introducing a dedicated Siri app where users can return to past conversations or start new ones. The app will use iCloud to privately sync conversation history across a user’s Apple devices. According to Apple, the new Siri experience is powered by a privacy-focused architecture designed to protect user data while making Siri more useful and personal.
The next generation of Apple Intelligence will also bring new features across everyday apps. In Photos, a new Spatial Reframing feature will help users improve the composition of photos after they have been taken. Image Playground is also getting new creative tools, including the ability to generate high-quality images in a photorealistic style. Apple Intelligence will also help users with tasks in Safari, Messages, Mail, and other apps, including smarter suggestions and easier ways to create notes, reminders, and responses.
Apple also announced expanded parental control and child safety features. With child accounts, parents can quickly turn on age-appropriate protections across the system. Setup Assistant will allow parents to choose which apps their children can use and stay in control of what gets added later. Communication safety tools will let parents approve new contacts and enable automatic warnings when explicit or violent content may be shared.
Screen Time is also getting a major update. Parents will be able to set daily time allowances across Entertainment, Games, and Social Media apps, with suggested limits based on guidance from clinical and child development experts. New schedules will let parents decide which apps children can access at different times of the day, such as during school hours. Apple says Screen Time has also been redesigned to give parents a clearer view of their child’s device usage and most-used apps.
The software updates will also focus on speed, reliability, and smoother everyday use. Apple says iPhone and iPad apps will launch up to 30 percent faster, photos will load up to 70 percent faster after being taken, and AirDrop transfers will be up to 80 percent faster. Moving between cellular and Wi-Fi networks will also feel more seamless, while browsing and transferring files between external drives and iPad will be up to five times faster.
Search is also being improved across Spotlight, Photos, and Mail. Apple says the search experience has been rebuilt to make it more stable and efficient, helping users find what they need more easily. Mail is also getting a new ranking system designed to show more relevant results in Top Hits.
Apple is also refining its software design across platforms. A new slider in Settings will let users personalize Liquid Glass, adjusting it from ultra-clear to fully tinted. App icons are being updated to look sharper and more defined, while macOS will bring back familiar design elements such as a more uniform toolbar, edge-to-edge sidebars, and colored sidebar icons.
Other features coming this fall include iCloud Shared Albums with cross-platform full-resolution photo sharing, new Cycle Tracking support in the Health app for perimenopause and menopause, a redesigned Apple Watch app grid with Siri-suggested apps, and a new Find My app that brings Find Devices, Find Items, and Find People into one place.
AirPods users will get custom EQ to personalize sound, while AirPods Pro 3 users will be able to sync heart rate data through iPhone using expanded Apple GymKit support. Apple Vision Pro will let users turn panoramas into spatial scenes and use them as personal Environments, while Wi-Fi connections will be up to three times faster. Apple Maps will also add an enhanced Flyover experience that combines aerial imagery with AI to deliver more detailed visuals.
