Apple is giving App Store developers a new way to attract subscribers by offering lower-priced plans tied to a one-year commitment.
The company announced on Monday that it will introduce a new subscription option that allows customers to pay monthly for auto-renewing subscriptions while committing to a 12-month term. This gives developers a chance to offer discounted pricing in exchange for steadier long-term revenue.
The move also reflects how many developers already promote annual subscriptions inside their apps. It is common for apps to show a lower monthly price to highlight the savings customers get when choosing a yearly plan instead of a standard monthly option. That pricing strategy often helps convince users who are unsure about committing to a longer period.

Apple is now officially bringing this model into the App Store system, while also setting rules for how these offers must be displayed so customers clearly understand the real cost of the subscription.
The feature will not be available in the United States or Singapore at launch. Apple did not explain the reason, but the company is still involved in App Store legal matters in the U.S. related to its case with Epic Games and subscription payment rules. Singapore may also have been excluded in the first rollout because of its advanced payments market and strong consumer protection rules.
Before signing up, customers will be able to view important details about the subscription, including payment structure and cancellation terms. Users can cancel at any time, but monthly payments will continue to be charged through their Apple account until the 12-month term is completed.
Apple says customers will also be able to check how many payments have been completed and how many remain through their Apple Account settings. The company will send reminder emails and optional push notifications before renewal dates to help users stay informed about upcoming charges.
While the option can help customers get lower pricing, it may also lead some users into longer commitments if they forget to cancel before renewal. Since the subscriptions renew automatically, users could unintentionally begin another 12-month term.

Developers will be able to set up the new subscription type through App Store Connect and test it in Xcode. The feature will be available worldwide on supported software versions including iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, macOS Tahoe 26.4, tvOS 26.4, and visionOS 26.4 or later, with wider rollout arriving alongside version 26.5 updates in May.
