Amazon’s next-generation voice assistant, Alexa+, is rapidly expanding its early access program.

The company confirmed that over one million users are now trying the generative AI-powered assistant, though it’s still not publicly available.

First unveiled in February 2025, Alexa+ aims to reinvent the traditional Alexa experience with more natural conversations, smarter home integrations, and AI-enhanced features. Access remains limited to those who joined the original waitlist, but invites have been steadily rolling out, and users are sharing their experiences on social media.

During Early Access, Alexa+ is free for all users. Once it officially launches, it will remain free for Amazon Prime members, while non-Prime users will need to pay $19.99 per month.

Alexa+ is currently supported on Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21 devices in the U.S., with plans to expand to Fire TV and Fire tablet users soon. Compared to the original Alexa, Alexa+ enables more human-like interactions. For example, you can say “It’s too cold in here,” and Alexa will intelligently adjust the thermostat. It also allows smoother conversations, custom routines, Ring camera search, and even generates bedtime stories or quizzes.

With integration partners like OpenTable, Ticketmaster, Uber Eats, and TripAdvisor, Alexa+ also helps with actions such as booking reservations, buying tickets, and checking deals.

While the upgraded assistant is more powerful than before, early user feedback is mixed — some find it impressive, while others say it still needs polishing. Amazon says 90% of the promised features are now live, signaling a full public launch is near.
