Amazon Web Services (AWS) is facing a major outage that has affected many popular online platforms, including Amazon, Alexa, Snapchat, Fortnite, ChatGPT, the Epic Games Store, and more.
According to the AWS status page, several services are currently “impacted” by operational issues. The company says it is investigating “increased error rates and delays” in its US-EAST-1 region, though the problem seems to be affecting other regions around the world as well.
Many users on Reddit have reported that Alexa is not responding to voice commands or completing requests. Some users say their daily routines, like pre-set alarms, are also not working. The outage is also causing issues for services that rely on AWS’s cloud network, including Perplexity, Airtable, Canva, and the McDonald’s app. The cause of the outage is still unknown, and there’s no timeline for when full service will return.
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas confirmed the impact on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Perplexity is down right now. The root cause is an AWS issue. We’re working on resolving it.”
