YouTube is rolling out a new design for its video player, promising a cleaner and more immersive viewing experience.
The update, which begins this week, includes redesigned controls and new icons aimed at making the interface more visually appealing while covering less of the video itself.
According to YouTube, the new player will feature rounded on-screen buttons with a subtle translucent effect. While not as intense as Apple’s Liquid Glass look, it gives the player a more modern and polished feel. The refreshed design will be available across mobile devices, the web, and TVs.
Alongside the new player, YouTube is also introducing several quality-of-life improvements. The popular double-tap gesture to skip forward or backward in a video has been redesigned to feel “modern and less intrusive.” The platform is also adding a more structured system for comment replies, which YouTube says will make reading and responding to conversations easier and more focused.
Another fun addition is a new dynamic animation when users hit the like button. For instance, liking a music video might trigger a short animation of a music note. These small visual details, combined with the cleaner design, show YouTube’s ongoing effort to make watching and interacting with videos a smoother and more enjoyable experience across all devices.
