The social media platform X experienced a widespread outage on Tuesday that left thousands of users around the world unable to access the service.
According to outage tracking website Downdetector, the problems began around 9 a.m. Eastern Time and affected users in multiple countries.
In the United States, reports of issues quickly increased, reaching a peak of more than 28,300 complaints. As the day went on, the situation improved, with reports dropping to around 700, suggesting that access to the platform was gradually being restored. Similar patterns were seen in other regions as well.

In the United Kingdom, Downdetector showed reports falling to roughly 130 after earlier climbing past 8,000. Canada also saw a significant number of users affected, with reports peaking at more than 3,200 before declining later in the day. Downdetector gathers its data from user-submitted reports, so the actual number of affected users may be higher or lower than the figures shown.
X, which is owned by Elon Musk, did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the cause of the outage. As of now, the company has not shared any official explanation for what triggered the disruption.
This is not the first time X has faced major technical issues. In November 2025, a problem at Cloudflare briefly blocked access to the platform after a faulty security configuration disrupted traffic. Just days later, a separate outage took X offline again for thousands of users in the United States.
