X announced today that it will begin labeling parody or satire accounts to help users distinguish them from authentic profiles.
This move comes after instances where users, including journalists, mistakenly treated posts from parody accounts as genuine statements from the entities they mimic.
The new label will appear on both the parody account’s profile and individual posts.

“We’re rolling out profile labels for parody accounts to clearly differentiate these accounts and their content on our platform,” X stated in an official post. “These labels are designed to promote transparency and ensure users are not misled into believing these accounts represent the individuals or organizations being parodied.”
