Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar has died at the age of 75 after suffering a severe cardiac arrest in Goa, according to reports.
Patekar was found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula on Thursday morning and was taken to a hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him for around 45 minutes. He was declared dead at about 5:20 a.m. on October 8, 2026.
The actor’s son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed his father’s death and said he was traveling from Pune to Goa. A detailed statement from the family is expected later. Doctors performed CPR for about 45 minutes but were unable to revive the veteran actor. A medico-legal case has been registered, and a post-mortem examination is expected to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death.
Patekar was one of the most distinctive performers in Hindi and Marathi cinema, known for his intense acting, powerful dialogue delivery and ability to move between serious dramatic roles and comedy. He began his film career with Gaman in 1978 and went on to appear in widely remembered movies including Parinda, Krantiveer, Prahaar, Agni Sakshi, Ab Tak Chhappan, Welcome and Natsamrat.
His performances earned him multiple National Film Awards, while his contribution to Indian cinema was recognised with the Padma Shri in 2013. Beyond acting, Patekar also worked as a director and remained involved in social causes.
Patekar had remained active in the entertainment industry in recent years. His last public appearance was reportedly at an event in Goa four days before his death. His sudden passing has prompted tributes from across the Indian film industry and marks the loss of one of Indian cinema’s most recognisable veteran actors.
