Twitch has announced some exciting new updates at TwitchCon Europe, including the ability to stream in vertical format, better video quality with 2K streaming, and a new rewind feature.
The vertical streaming feature will make it easier to watch livestreams on your phone in portrait mode. Streamers won’t have to choose between vertical or horizontal video—Twitch plans to support both at the same time. This feature will be tested with a few channels this summer and rolled out more widely later in the year.
Twitch is also launching a 2K (1440p) streaming option in open beta for all Twitch partners and affiliates. This means streamers can now offer sharper and clearer video than before. Until now, 2K streaming was only available in a limited beta.
Another new feature is the ability to rewind a livestream. If you miss something during a live broadcast, you’ll be able to go back and watch it again. Twitch will start testing this with a small number of viewers soon.
These changes are part of Twitch’s plan to improve the platform, as shared by Twitch CEO Dan Clancy in a letter earlier this year.
