The feature was launched during the holiday season, a crucial time for TikTok’s shopping business as it works to prove its strength in the competitive e-commerce market. With this move, TikTok Shop is stepping closer to major online retailers like Amazon and eBay, both of which already offer gift card options. The company has also been expanding into luxury retail, showing its ambition to become a serious player in online shopping.
Users can purchase digital gift cards ranging from $10 to $500. One standout feature is customization. Buyers can choose from a wide range of animated designs, including themes for birthdays, weddings, thank-you messages, and other special occasions, making the gifting experience more personal and engaging.
The gift cards are delivered by email, and recipients must have a TikTok account to use them. Once redeemed, the amount is instantly added to the user’s TikTok Balance, which can be used to shop directly on TikTok Shop. Recipients can also reply with a thank-you message or send a gift card back in return.
At the moment, these digital gift cards are only available for purchase in the United States.
