Meta is making it easier for people to share Threads posts directly to their Instagram Stories without switching between apps.
The new feature allows users to preview how a Threads post will look on their Instagram Story right inside the Threads app before sharing it.
Threads already lets users reshare posts to Instagram Stories, similar to how Instagram posts can be reshared. It also offers options to share posts to the Instagram Feed and direct messages. But until now, users had to move between apps to complete the process. With this update, everything happens in one place, making sharing faster and more convenient.
Threads, Meta’s text-focused app designed to compete with X, launched in July 2023. It quickly gained attention because it was connected to Instagram. People could sign up using their Instagram accounts, which automatically carried over their username, profile photo, bio, verification badge, and followers. With just one tap, users could follow the same accounts they already followed on Instagram. If someone they followed was not yet on Threads, that person would get a notification when they joined.
Since its launch, Meta has relied heavily on Instagram and Facebook to grow Threads. Popular Threads posts have been shown on Facebook, and Instagram users have seen carousels featuring Threads content. Meta also made it simple to cross-post between Instagram, Facebook, and Threads, helping more users discover and try the app.
These strategies seem to be working. Threads has grown from 200 million monthly active users in August 2024 to 400 million by August 2025. The company also reported reaching 150 million daily active users in October. According to recent data from Similarweb, Threads now sees more daily mobile usage than X, although X still leads in web traffic.
