Spotify is pushing deeper into AI-powered audio by introducing a new personal podcast feature that lets users generate custom podcasts based on their own prompts, interests, and uploaded content.

Until now, Spotify has mainly been a platform for listening to podcasts created by others. With this new feature, users can create their own AI-generated podcasts for personal listening directly inside the app. Earlier this month, Spotify released a GitHub-based command-line tool for developers using Claude Code and Codex, allowing them to generate podcasts and save them to their Spotify library. The company says direct in-app podcast creation is coming soon.

Users will be able to create recurring AI podcast briefings for topics they follow regularly, including daily or weekly updates. Spotify shared examples such as asking for local city news and concert recommendations from favorite artists or getting a quick five-minute explanation of economics.

The feature also supports adding links, PDFs, and text documents as source material for podcast generation. Users can select custom AI voices as well, making the experience similar to tools like Google, ElevenLabs, and Huxe, an app built by former NotebookLM developers.

Spotify also introduced a desktop application called Studio by Spotify Labs. The app can connect with users’ email and calendar accounts to generate personalized audio briefings tailored to their schedules and interests.

Alongside personal podcast creation, Spotify is rolling out a new AI-powered Q&A experience for Premium mobile users in the United States, Sweden, and Ireland. The feature lets listeners ask questions about podcast episodes they are currently listening to, request explanations for topics mentioned during episodes, and discover podcast recommendations on specific subjects.

The update follows Spotify’s recent rollout of prompt-based podcast playlist generation, introduced in April. The company says engagement with video podcasts has also grown significantly, with users streaming video podcasts increasing 50% year-over-year.

Spotify appears to be positioning itself more as an interactive AI-powered audio platform rather than just a streaming service. The new features closely resemble Google’s recently launched Ask YouTube experience, where users can interact with content using AI-generated responses.

For creators, Spotify is also expanding monetization tools. The company is making its creator sponsorship platform more widely available for managing brand partnerships and is adding subscription options that allow creators to lock exclusive content and experiences behind paid memberships, similar to features already offered by platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Snap.
