Spotify is expanding beyond music, podcasts, and audiobooks with a new format that brings narrated magazine articles to the platform.
The company is launching more than 650 long-form audio articles from major publications, giving users another way to listen to journalism directly inside the Spotify app.
The new narrated articles are available in English in regions where Spotify already offers audiobooks. The launch includes content from well-known publications such as Rolling Stone, The Atlantic, Vogue, Variety, Billboard, Vibe, GQ, Wired, Vanity Fair, and Pitchfork. Each article is under two hours long, making the format shorter than many audiobooks but longer and more detailed than a typical podcast segment.
Premium users will be able to listen to these narrated articles through their monthly audiobook allowance. Free users can also access the content, but they will need to buy individual articles for $1.99 each, according to Spotify spokesperson Rosalind Jeffcoat.
Spotify says the new Articles feature is designed to bring long-form journalism into the same listening experience people already use for music, podcasts, and audiobooks. Colleen Prendergast, Spotify’s audiobooks licensing lead, said the company wants to offer shorter-form content around topics listeners already enjoy while helping build stronger listening habits over time.
The move is part of Spotify’s broader push to grow beyond traditional music streaming. The platform has recently introduced several new tools and features, including AI-powered daily podcasts, audiobook playlists, and remixing tools for songs from artists represented by Universal Music Group.

Spotify’s narrated articles will use both human narration and digital voice narration. Jeffcoat said articles that use digital voice will be clearly labeled for listeners. She added that digital narration can make it easier to bring written works into audio, especially shorter pieces that may not normally be produced in audio format.
