Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Z TriFold, a new device that expands the company’s leadership in unique mobile designs for the AI era.
After a decade of developing foldable phones, Samsung is now bringing a tri-folding device with its most advanced engineering yet. The Galaxy Z TriFold is slim and portable like a premium smartphone, but when it is unfolded twice, it opens into a large 10-inch display that makes work, entertainment and multitasking far more immersive than any previous form factor.
Samsung says the TriFold represents its ongoing mission to explore new possibilities in mobile technology. According to TM Roh, the company’s CEO and head of the Device eXperience division, the goal was to solve one of the industry’s biggest challenges: creating a device that offers powerful performance, strong productivity and easy portability all in one. The TriFold pushes these boundaries even further for today’s AI-driven world.
Samsung’s long experience in foldable design played a key role in building this device. The TriFold uses an inward-folding mechanism that protects the main display. The folding system has been engineered to open and close smoothly, and it even alerts the user if the device is being folded incorrectly. Every element is carefully designed to feel intuitive and natural.
With a thickness of only 3.9 mm at its thinnest point, the Galaxy Z TriFold still manages to deliver flagship performance with the customized Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, a 200 MP main camera, and the largest battery ever used in a Samsung foldable. The 5,600 mAh three-cell battery is evenly distributed across the device’s three panels, giving it strong endurance throughout the day. Fast 45W charging helps users recharge quickly and continue working or watching content without worry.
To keep the device thin, Samsung re-engineered its hinge and display materials. The new dual-hinge system uses two different hinge sizes that work together for a stable fold and a minimal gap between the screens. The main display has been reinforced with a stronger protective layer to handle repeated folding. A titanium hinge housing protects key components from damage, while an Advanced Armor Aluminum frame provides strength without adding bulk. The back panel uses a ceramic-glass fiber material that is durable yet lightweight. Each unit goes through strict quality checks, including CT and laser scanning, to ensure internal components are placed with extreme accuracy.
The Galaxy Z TriFold is designed to take full advantage of its massive screen for productivity. When opened, the device works like three separate smartphone-sized apps side-by-side, letting users multitask with ease. They can resize windows, run multiple tools at once and switch between tasks without interrupting their work. An architect, for example, could view blueprints, write notes and calculate measurements all on the same screen at the same time. The redesigned taskbar brings back recently used apps instantly, making multitasking effortless. Even Samsung’s built-in apps like My Files and Samsung Health have been optimized for the larger display.
The TriFold is also the first mobile device to support standalone Samsung DeX, allowing users to create a full workstation anywhere. Up to four workspaces can run five apps each, and users can add a second screen in Extended Mode to work like they would on a desktop setup. A Bluetooth mouse and keyboard can turn the TriFold into a complete portable workstation.
Galaxy AI features make the device even more powerful. Tools like Photo Assist allow users to edit images, generate backgrounds and compare results more easily on the larger screen. Browsing Assist can summarize or translate websites instantly. Gemini Live uses multimodal AI to understand what users see and say. For example, if a user shows it a room, paint colors and shopping options, it can give personalized design recommendations. With screen or camera sharing, users can ask real-time questions about what is currently visible on the display.
The TriFold also provides an excellent entertainment experience. The 10-inch screen is ideal for watching movies or browsing content, and YouTube can display videos and comments side-by-side. The minimized crease keeps visuals clean and smooth. When folded, the device becomes compact enough to fit into a pocket like a normal phone. The cover display features a bright and fast Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate and up to 2600 nits of brightness. The main display reaches 1600 nits and uses Vision Booster to keep colors vivid in different lighting conditions.
