Russia has officially banned the online gaming platform Roblox, according to a report published by state-owned news agency TASS.
The country’s communications regulator said the decision was driven in part by the presence of LGBTQ-related content on the platform. Under Russian law, public advocacy or positive representation of LGBTQ identities is classified as “extremist activity.”
According to data from analytics firm Appfigures, Roblox has been downloaded approximately 70 million times in Russia on mobile devices, including 8 million installations in 2024 alone.
