Qantas Airways has confirmed that customer data stolen during a major cyberattack in July has now been published online by cybercriminals.

The airline said it was among several companies targeted in the breach, which compromised the personal details of more than a million customers. Sensitive information such as phone numbers, birth dates, and home addresses was accessed, while another four million customers had their names and email addresses exposed.

The July cyberattack is considered one of Australia’s largest data breaches since major incidents involving Optus and Medibank in 2022, which led to tighter cybersecurity regulations. In a statement, Qantas said it was working with cybersecurity experts to investigate the release and determine exactly what data had been exposed.

The airline also noted that it has an active court injunction preventing the stolen information from being accessed or shared by any party. According to The Guardian Australia, a hacker group known as Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters claimed responsibility for releasing the stolen data after a ransom deadline passed. Qantas has declined to comment on that report.
