ParkMobile has wrapped up a class action lawsuit over its 2021 data breach that exposed the personal information of more than 22 million users.
But the settlement payout is leaving many scratching their heads: affected customers are receiving just $1 in-app credit.
Emails sent out last week informed plaintiffs that their “compensation” comes in the form of a special promo code. The code provides a $0.25 discount per parking session, usable up to four times, for a total of $1.00. To redeem it, users must manually apply the code under Payment → Discounts in the ParkMobile app. For most, the credit expires on October 8, 2026, though California residents are exempt from the expiration date.
The 2021 breach saw a 4.5 GB database leaked online, containing names, phone numbers, email addresses, bcrypt-hashed passwords, mailing addresses, license plate numbers, and vehicle information. Despite agreeing to a $32.8 million settlement in December 2024, ParkMobile has denied any wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, the company is warning customers of ongoing phishing scams targeting its user base. Fraudulent SMS messages impersonating ParkMobile are circulating, directing victims to bogus payment sites. ParkMobile stressed that it will never ask users for sensitive details such as passwords or banking information.
Users can check if their information was part of the breach at HaveIBeenPwned.com by entering their ParkMobile email address.
