OpenAI is preparing to launch its own AI-powered web browser built on Chromium, directly competing with Google Chrome.

The new browser, expected to debut on macOS first, is designed to integrate advanced AI features, including browsing automation and a chat-driven interface powered by ChatGPT.

According to reports, the browser will work closely with OpenAI’s Agent mode, which can perform tasks like filling forms, booking tickets, summarizing web pages, and managing multiple tabs. Unlike the current cloud-based Agent system, the upcoming browser could combine local browsing with AI assistance, making it faster and more efficient.

The project, codenamed “Aura” in some leaks, may completely change how people use the internet. Instead of manually searching and clicking, users could rely on AI to guide them, summarize information, and handle online tasks through natural conversation.
