India has become one of the biggest markets for ChatGPT, with around 100 million people using the AI tool every week.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared this update just before attending a major government-hosted AI event in New Delhi.
Altman revealed the figures in an article published in The Times of India on Sunday.
OpenAI is formally participating in the five-day India AI Impact Summit, where Altman is expected to join other global technology leaders and senior executives from top AI companies.
According to Altman, India is now ChatGPT’s second-largest market after the United States. Globally, the platform has seen explosive growth. By October 2025, ChatGPT had reached about 800 million weekly active users worldwide and was reportedly approaching 900 million.
