OpenAI is reportedly preparing to launch its AI video generator Sora directly inside ChatGPT soon.
The news was first reported by The Information on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the company’s plans.
Sora is part of OpenAI’s push into multimodal artificial intelligence, which allows AI systems to create not only text but also images and videos. The technology puts OpenAI in competition with other major companies such as Meta and Google, which are also developing text-to-video AI tools.
While text-based AI systems have already become widely used at home and in workplaces, video-generating AI is seen as the next big step in the technology’s growth. Experts believe these tools could transform industries such as entertainment, marketing, and social media.
OpenAI originally launched Sora as a standalone application in September 2025. The app allows users to create AI-generated videos and share them online, similar to social media content streams. Some of these videos can even be created using existing copyrighted material.
According to the report, OpenAI plans to keep the Sora app running even after integrating the technology into ChatGPT. This means users may be able to generate videos directly in ChatGPT while the separate Sora platform continues to operate.
