Microsoft has announced that it will shut down the Microsoft Lens PDF Scanner app for iOS and Android later this year.

Starting in mid September 2025, new downloads of the app will be blocked on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. By mid November, the app will be removed completely. After December 15, 2025, users will not be able to create new scans, but files already saved in the MyScans folder will remain accessible.

The Lens app, which was previously called Office Lens, is a popular tool for scanning documents and converting them into PDF, Word, PowerPoint and Excel formats. It has been downloaded more than 50 million times on Google Play and holds high ratings on both Android and iOS.

Microsoft is encouraging users to switch to the Microsoft 365 Copilot app, which also offers scanning features. Some tools from Lens, such as saving to OneNote and Immersive Reader, are not yet available in the Copilot app, but Microsoft says more updates will be released in the future.
