Microsoft has officially begun rolling out its highly anticipated Windows Recall feature to all Copilot+ PCs running Windows 11 KB5055627, marking its public debut nearly a year after it was first announced.
Windows Recall is an AI-powered tool that passively captures snapshots of your screen, allowing users to “recall” moments they’ve previously seen on their PC. Whether it’s a forgotten PowerPoint file or a web page you briefly viewed, Recall uses natural language processing to help you find and reopen that content—even if you don’t remember exact names or file paths.
Initially introduced in May 2024, Recall was promoted as a flagship AI feature for Snapdragon-powered Windows 11 devices. However, it faced intense backlash from privacy advocates and security researchers who found that Recall stored sensitive data, including passwords in plain text.
In response, Microsoft paused the rollout, addressed the concerns, and reintroduced Recall with stronger privacy protections. The feature is now completely optional, and Microsoft has implemented AI-based filtering to prevent it from storing passwords and other confidential information.
The new and improved Recall is now part of Windows 11 Build 26100 and is being distributed with the May 2025 Patch Tuesday Update. Only Snapdragon-based Copilot+ PCs are eligible for this rollout.
