Microsoft rolled out a new Windows 11 update that was supposed to make dark mode look more consistent across the system.
File Explorer finally gained dark-themed dialogs for copying, moving, or deleting files. All of that sounds good — until you open File Explorer and get hit with a sudden bright white flash.
Microsoft has confirmed the issue in the known problems section for update KB5070311. According to the company, you may see a blank white screen for a moment before File Explorer loads your files and folders. For anyone working at night or using dark mode all the time, that quick flash feels like a mini flashbang.
Microsoft says it’s already working on a fix. But if you don’t want to wait, you can use a Windhawk mod to restore the old, stable dark mode behavior in File Explorer.
