A cloud service outage at Microsoft caused disruptions for several US airlines on Thursday, grounding and delaying flights.

The issue, which began around 6:00 PM ET, impacted a subset of customers in the Central US region using Microsoft Azure services.

Low-cost carriers Frontier Airlines, Allegiant, and Sun Country were among the most affected airlines. Frontier reported cancelling 147 flights and delaying 212 more, according to flight tracking service FlightAware. Allegiant saw delays on 45% of its flights, while Sun Country experienced delays on 23% of theirs.

While the exact number of impacted flights remains unclear, the disruption caused significant delays and cancellations for travelers.

Microsoft acknowledged the outage and worked through the night to resolve it. By early Friday morning, they announced the issue had been fixed.
