Meta is expanding its safety tools for teenagers by notifying parents when supervised teen accounts have conversations with Meta AI about self-harm or suicide.
The new feature applies to Instagram teen accounts that use parental supervision. If Meta AI detects that a conversation involves topics such as self-harm or suicide, it will send a proactive notification to the supervising parent or guardian, warning them that the teen’s safety could be at risk.
The update builds on a similar protection Meta introduced in February for Instagram Search, where parents could also be alerted if supervised teens searched for content related to self-harm or suicide.
By extending these safeguards to Meta AI chats, the company aims to help parents recognize potential warning signs earlier while encouraging timely support for young users.
