Meta is preparing major updates for Edits, its video-editing app designed to compete with ByteDance’s CapCut.

The company previewed new features for the app at an invite-only creator event in Los Angeles, including an AI assistant and a desktop version. Edits was originally launched as a mobile-only app, but Meta now wants to make it more useful for creators who need better editing control and deeper performance insights.

The upcoming AI assistant will help creators understand their Instagram data and generate new content ideas. It will analyze details such as views, video retention, and audience performance to show what is working and why. It will also suggest video ideas and recommend content using trending audio.

By adding AI directly into Edits, Meta is trying to keep creators inside its own platform instead of relying on outside tools for brainstorming, analytics, or content planning. The move also puts Meta in stronger competition with TikTok and YouTube, which already offer creator tools for trends, ideas, and performance insights.

Meta is also working on a desktop version of Edits. This will allow creators to edit videos on a larger screen and get more precise control over their projects. The company says creators will be able to sync their work between mobile and desktop, making it easier to continue editing across different devices.

Along with these upcoming features, Meta is launching several new tools in Edits today. A new Beta tab will let creators test experimental features before they are fully released. The app is also adding expanded audience insights, including demographic details and information about when an audience is most active.

Creators will also be able to search for specific topics inside the Inspiration feed to find reels, templates, and trend ideas. Another new feature will allow them to create multiple versions of the same content to test what performs best before publishing.

Meta says videos made with Edits are seeing higher engagement compared with videos made outside the app, including a higher save rate and reshare rate. The company also says more than half of people watching reels on Instagram are seeing content made with Edits every day.
