Meta is rolling out new AI-powered editing tools directly within Instagram Stories, allowing users to easily add, remove, or completely change parts of their photos and videos using simple text prompts.
This means you can now tell Instagram what you want to modify, like adding sunglasses, changing your hair color, or replacing the background, and Meta’s AI will handle the rest.
Previously, Instagram’s AI editing features were only accessible through the Meta AI chatbot. Now, with the addition of text-based prompts in Stories, these tools are much easier to use. The new editing options appear in the “Restyle” menu, which you can find by tapping the paintbrush icon at the top of Instagram Stories. Users can type commands such as “add a sunset,” “remove the background,” or “change my outfit” to instantly transform their photos and videos.
Meta also offers preset effects for quicker edits. These include options to modify your outfit with items like a biker jacket or sunglasses or to give your image a creative touch with effects such as watercolor or fantasy art. For videos, you can make it look like it’s snowing or even add fiery effects.
However, using these tools means agreeing to Meta’s AI Terms of Service, which allow the company to analyze your photos and videos, including facial features. According to Meta, the AI can summarize image contents, modify them, and generate new visuals based on the uploaded media.
The company has been steadily expanding its AI features to stay ahead in the competitive social media landscape. Recently, Meta began testing a “Write with Meta AI” option on Instagram that helps users come up with engaging comments for posts. Last month, it also introduced an AI-generated video feed called “Vibes” in the Meta AI app, which significantly boosted its daily active users to 2.7 million across iOS and Android.
