Intel is reportedly preparing to lay off as much as 20 percent of its factory workforce within its Foundry division, according to an internal memo obtained by The Oregonian.
The memo, written by Intel Manufacturing Vice President Naga Chandrasekara, indicates that the company may reduce headcount by 15 to 20 percent in response to ongoing financial pressures.
“These are difficult actions but essential to meet our affordability challenges and the current financial position of the company,” Chandrasekara stated.
The layoffs are expected to begin as early as next month and follow last year’s broader job cuts, which affected over 15,000 employees across the company. Intel has been navigating a challenging market amid fierce competition and slowing demand in the semiconductor sector.
