Instagram has released a brand-new app called Edits, which is specially designed for creators who want to make professional-looking videos.
The app is now free to download on both iOS and Android.
Edits comes with powerful tools that go beyond what the regular Instagram app offers. You can use features like AI animations from photos, green screen effects, and cutting out people from the background. It also helps you manage your video projects, save ideas, and check how your videos are doing.
Many of these features are similar to CapCut, a popular video editing app owned by TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance. Instagram announced Edits at a time when TikTok and CapCut were briefly removed from U.S. app stores — showing that Instagram is clearly trying to offer a strong alternative.
Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, said that Edits is more for serious creators, not just casual users. He added that while it may look like CapCut at first, it will have more creative tools and be different in the long run.
Instagram also shared that more features are coming soon, like keyframe animation, more AI editing tools, and the option to work on videos together with friends.
