Instagram has finally launched its long-awaited iPad app, more than 15 years after the platform first debuted.

The new app, released on September 3, 2025, puts Reels at the center of the experience as Meta doubles down on short-form video to compete with TikTok.

When users open the app, they are immediately greeted with a full-screen Reels feed, while Stories remain at the top for quick access. A new Following tab allows users to switch to a more traditional chronological feed, with filters like All, Friends, and Latest for customized browsing.

The iPad’s larger screen also unlocks new multitasking features. Comments appear side-by-side with Reels without interrupting playback, and Direct Messages are displayed alongside the inbox, similar to Instagram’s desktop and Messenger experience. These improvements make navigation smoother and more user-friendly compared to the iPhone version.
