Instagram announced Monday that users can now listen to song previews directly within Stories when tracks are shared from Spotify, a long-awaited update aimed at improving in-app music discovery.
Previously, sharing a Spotify song to Instagram Stories only displayed the album art and a link, with no audio playback. With this update, viewers will now hear a short preview of the shared track without leaving the app, making the experience more seamless and engaging.
The update follows Instagram’s recent addition of Spotify integration to Notes, allowing users to display songs they’re currently listening to at the top of their inbox. These efforts position Instagram as a growing hub for music discovery, potentially drawing users away from TikTok, which continues to influence global music trends.
Alongside the Spotify update, Instagram is also rolling out new fonts for Stories and Reels. The first is a limited-time font inspired by singer Rosalía’s handwriting, complete with hidden symbols that appear when users type characters like “<3,” “***,” or “:-)”.
