Microsoft has issued an out-of-band update to resolve a critical issue affecting some Windows 10 systems, where devices unexpectedly boot into the BitLocker recovery screen after installing the May 2025 security update.

The issue impacts systems running Windows 10 22H2, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021—specifically those using Intel vPro processors (10th Gen or later) with Intel Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) enabled.

According to Microsoft, after installing update KB5058379 (released on May 13, 2025), some systems may experience a crash in the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS), which causes Windows to fail to start and triggers an Automatic Repair. Devices with BitLocker enabled then prompt for the BitLocker recovery key before proceeding.

To address this, Microsoft has released update KB5061768, available exclusively through the Microsoft Update Catalog. This cumulative update includes all previous fixes and is recommended for any affected systems.
